Politics is something the world revolves around. So what is it? According to the dictionary, politics is generally associated with the governance of a country, state or city. It touches upon many different subjects, from learning about relations between different countries to learning about the structure of governments.

As you have probably learned in past history classes, politicians often go about shouting their philosophies. Nowadays politicians continue to do this but in a more orderly fashion.

In addition to politicians there are those who analyze and compare the history of the world with today’s current events. Political scientists hold an advanced degree in political science and often conduct research about political systems and philosophies as well as analyze results of studies. They conduct surveys to find out the public’s opinions about certain subjects and questions. Consulting with political parties and government officials are part of their job as well.

If you are interested in pursuing a career in politics, it is important to take courses in history, politics, and social sciences. Join the debate team, run for student council, read the newspapers, and watch the news.

The most important topics to know to become a political scientist is law and government. Strong communication skills are also very important. Skills in reading, writing, speaking and critical thinking are critical. You need to read documents, write documents, speak with others, and be able to analyze strengths and weaknesses in solutions and conclusions. Tasks that you perform as a political scientist includes being able to retrieve information, identify events, process information, communicate with others, and to give advice to others.

In the year 2001, the average wage for a political scientist was $39.11 per hour and $81,350 annually.

There are many jobs and careers that are related to politics such as holding public office and working on a political campaign. Other jobs in this field involve public affairs, civil service, and foreign affairs. Positions in the White House as well as the State House, too also focuses on politics.

Being involved with politics is like being involved with the whole world because everything revolves around politics. Politics is everywhere. People all over the world are interested in the politics of other countries. When you turn on the news and watch something about another country, the same is done by others of other countries. Politics plays an important role in society.
